Netflix is bringing its most-watched film ever back to movie theaters for a special Halloween engagement, marking another milestone in the animated hit’s unprecedented success story
“KPop Demon Hunters” will return to cinemas nationwide from October 31 through November 2 for sing-along screenings at all three major U.S. theater chains—AMC, Regal, and Cinemark—along with select international locations. The Halloween screenings come just two months after the film’s initial theatrical run generated an estimated $18 million at the box office.
AMC Partnership Signals Thawing Relations
The upcoming release represents a significant shift in the relationship between Netflix and AMC Entertainment, which notably declined to screen the film during its August theatrical debut. This time, “KPop Demon Hunters” will play at approximately 400 AMC locations across the U.S. and Europe.
“While the two companies have not had a commercial relationship in recent years, both Netflix and AMC are intrigued by the mutually beneficial opportunities that could arise from this and future collaboration,” an AMC Theatres spokesperson said. The partnership discussions come as both companies navigate the evolving landscape between streaming platforms and traditional theatrical exhibition.
The collaboration arrives during what industry observers describe as a lackluster Halloween weekend at the box office, with only Yorgos Lanthimos’ thriller “Bugonia” and a Twilight saga re-release scheduled to compete.
Cultural Phenomenon Continues
Since its June 20 Netflix debut, “KPop Demon Hunters” has become a cultural phenomenon, accumulating over 325 million global views and surpassing previous Netflix records. The animated musical follows fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/X as they battle supernatural forces, blending Korean mythology with contemporary pop culture.
The film’s soundtrack has achieved historic success, becoming the first in Billboard Hot 100 history to feature four songs simultaneously in the top 10. The soundtrack was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on October 8, while lead single “Golden” reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 charts.
Tickets for the Halloween sing-along screenings go on sale October 17 at 6 a.m. Pacific Time, with international screenings planned for the UK, Canada, Korea, Germany, Spain, Australia, and other territories. Netflix is encouraging fans to attend in costume, with official merchandise available through partnerships with Spirit Halloween.
