DIGGER is an upcoming comedic film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant, Amores Perros). The film stars Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell, a Southern oil tycoon who becomes almost unrecognizable in this darkly comic, unpredictable, and offbeat role. The story follows the most powerful man in the world embarking on a frantic mission to prove that he’s humanity’s savior in a world full of lies, deception, and double-crossing.

The film was announced by Warner Bros. Pictures, with Cruise celebrating his 46 year Hollywood career through this unusual transformative role that places him far from the action hero persona that has defined much of his recent work. Iñárritu described the movie at CinemaCon as “wild, funny” the kind of movie Cruise wanted to make.
The film is scheduled for release in theaters in the United States on October 2, 2026, playing only in cinemas, including IMAX theaters. An official trailer is set to debut on July 13, 2026.
