Heart of the Beast is an upcoming American survival thriller directed by David Ayer (known for Fury and End of Watch), starring Brad Pitt as James Belmont a retired Special Forces veteran who boards a plane into the Alaskan wilderness with his German shepherd to disappear, only to crash when his heart fails mid flight. Pitt also serves as a producer on the film.

The cast includes J.K. Simmons (Oscar winner) and Anna Lambe (True Detective), with Damien Chazelle as an executive producer. The story pits James against wolf packs, freezing river crossings, grizzly bears, and terrain that “punishes every step” all while his damaged heart puts him one heartbeat away from death.
Principal photography began March 3, 2025, in Queenstown, New Zealand, and the film is scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures on September 25, 2026.
